Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

EEA, Lithuania Full-time

Role

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer who will own parts of the alongID platform end to end: from the protocol spec, to the Python service, to the Kubernetes deployment. Ownership is the trait we care about most. You will work closely with the whole team, and your judgement will shape what we build.

  • Design, build and run Python and Django services behind the alongID platform
  • Integrate identity data sources and partners
  • Apply cryptography in production: credential signing and verification, encryption, AWS KMS key management, and X.509 certificates and trust chains
  • Own your services in production on AWS: EKS, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, observability, cost awareness, incident response
  • Set up and improve production monitoring (metrics, logs, tracing, alerting), and use it to scale the platform and keep it reliable as usage grows
  • Keep security and compliance part of daily work (ISO 27001 controls, GDPR, eIDAS 2.0 requirements), not an afterthought
  • Use AI coding tools every day to move faster, and help shape how the team uses them well
  • Occasionally help with frontend tasks in our React apps, with AI tools and team support
  • Review code, write clear technical docs and API documentation, and raise the bar for the people around you

Expectation

  • 4+ years building backend systems, with strong, modern Python (typing, testing, packaging) and solid Django experience, including Django REST Framework
  • Experience building reliable background jobs and third-party integrations, including retries, idempotency, timeouts and failure recovery; familiarity with Celery and Redis or equivalent tools
  • A track record of owning services in production: you designed them, shipped them, and kept improving them after launch
  • Solid infrastructure knowledge: Docker, Kubernetes (ideally EKS), AWS networking and IAM, Terraform or similar infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with production monitoring and observability (for example Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or similar), and with scaling systems under real load: capacity planning, autoscaling, performance tuning
  • Experience designing secure APIs: OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect, JWT/JWS/JWE, TLS, secrets and key management
  • Relational databases (PostgreSQL), data modelling and performance tuning, and experience protecting sensitive data through access controls, tenant isolation and appropriate retention
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar), plus the judgement to review what they produce
  • Clear written English, ability to document decisions and explain trade-offs to non-engineers
  • You are based within the EEA

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with verifiable credentials or digital identity topics, KYC, fintech or regulated industry background
  • Applied cryptography: elliptic curves, HSM or zero-knowledge proofs
  • Working knowledge of React and TypeScript, enough to ship a small frontend change

What we offer

  • Salary: EUR 4400 to 6000 gross per month, depending on experience. Full-time role, 40 hours per week, with a probation period
  • Stock option plan, so you share in the success of what you help build
  • Work in a 100% remote-first environment, choosing where and when you excel. A culture of autonomy and trust, with outcomes over process
  • Real ownership of a product shaping how Europe does digital identity under eIDAS 2.0
  • Direct work with the founders and our partners in identity and fintech

If you’re ready to drive next-generation trust ecosystem product, we’d love to hear from you!
